Mark Cam is in grade 11 and is proud to represent Steveston-London Secondary School in this year RichCity Idol Competition. Ever since he was little, Mark has always been involved with music learning multiple instruments and being part of a youth orchestra. However, it was in grade 6 when he performed for his elementary school’s talent show that he discovered his passion for singing. Though he was cut from his school’s idol three years in a row, Mark never gave up and eventually won this year. Music and singing represents a means of self-expression and creativity for Mark and thought he doesn’t necessarily see himself pursuing a career in music, it will definitely remain one of his passions in the future. Mark is extremely excited to make many amazing memories with the fellow idols and wishes all of them the best!
Marielle is in her senior year of high school at JN Burnett Secondary (FINALLY). She's used to getting mediocre scores on the karaoke when she performs in front of a small crowd and is absolutely terrified (yet excited) to be a part of Richcity Idol this year. Marielle can be a little awkward (maybe... very awkward) at first, but don't be fooled because she loves cracking jokes and making others laugh. Music helps her express her emotions because she's not very talented at coming up with the right words to do it herself. In the end, she's super grateful for the opportunity to perform, meet new people and have a lot of fun.
Representing Cambie Secondary...Jaspher Ladores! At a very young age, he performed in his school in front of 500+ people. He loves being on stage and likes to entertain people with his bad pun jokes. Music has been a part of Jaspher's life and he's a very talented individual, he likes to play a lot of sports, including basketball, volleyball and track. He also can dance! But one of the most important part of his life is dedicating his talent in singing to his youth group called Youth For Christ where he is a Music Ministry member and is also a part of his own church choir. He is deeply rooted in his faith, so He loves to give all his best and glory to God.
Vivian Wu is a grade 12 from A.R. MacNeill Secondary School. Vivian has an enthusiasm for art, including music, media arts and visual arts. Art is the best way for Vivian to express herself that she cannot be able to through words. Vivian plays the piano, zheng, and ukulele. Vivian used to be very nervous during performances, but she became more confident after taking acting class in school; now she is always excited to be on the stage. Vivian joined MacNeill idol for the first time and acquired lots of experience during the contest. She is honoured to be a part of Richcity Idol 2017 and looks forward to working with other idols in the future.
Samuel is a Grade 12 this year at R.C. Palmer Secondary. His love for singing started around the age of 3 but took some lessons at the age of 8 while on a summer vacation in the Philippines, and that's when his passion for singing really took off. Sam never sang much infront of people asides from the usual family gatherings. It wasn't until grade 5 Samuel began to showcase his singing for the first time at his elementary school talent show and didn't sing competitively until he got into highschool at Palmer. That's when his 4 year trek to win Palmer idol began. Palmer was and still is home to very talented singers which made singing very competitive at Palmer. After losing in grade 8,10, and 11, Samuel finally won this year's Palmer Idol. Excited to compete in Rich City Idol, Samuel wishes good luck to his opponents and that may the best singer win!
Angela Serias is the representative from Matthew Mcnair secondary school and is in grade 12. She loves music especially singing and is a part of her school's music program and even had the opportunity to join the BCMEA honour choir this year. Her hobbies include arts and hanging out with others as she cherishes her friends and those around her very much. Fun fact is that she can sing 18 of the pokemon theme songs and is actually super shy but is quite the talker once she gets to know someone. She hopes to have a valuable experience in RichCity idol and have a lots of fun!
Maria Deng is this year's idol at Richmond Secondary and she is currently in grade 11. She began to sing when she was really young and she is currently the president of the RHS Music club. Maria has also had the opportunity to return to China for a national singing competition in which she received second place, silver. In RHS Mandarin Singing Contest of 2015, she managed to place first. Music is her life and she cannot emphasize it's influence and importance for her. In the future, Maria hopes to study in the field of opera and continue to learn music.
Audrey De Boer is currently in grade 9 and is honored to represent McMath Secondary School. Audrey has always loved singing and often is told she is singing even when she doesn’t know she is! Audrey loves volleyball, dance, DJing, playing piano and generally loves music of all kinds. Audrey is thankful to all the people that put their time into RichCity Idol to make it such a high honor to be a part of and such a rewarding experience. She is excited to be a part of the show.
Hugh McRoberts Idol presents … Megumi Randall!
Megumi favourite things include: hiking, travelling, the colour purple, oversized hoodies and teas of all kinds (she even owns her own special teapot she bought from Japan). She is the leader of her school’s R&B Club and admits that it is one of the best things about going to school.
Megumi comes from a very musical family; from a young age she expressed a passion for music and would sing and play guitar in her parent’s band, which has helped her develop confidence.
Megumi lives to create. In addition to drawing digital art on photoshop, she loves to write stories in the form of lyrics. She hopes to someday be recognized for her original songs and plans to continue to write for the rest of her life.
Megumi feels that without music, there would be no way to pour her thoughts and feelings out to the world. With RichCity Idol, she is given a chance to showcase her love for singing and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
